If you were to learn something like this now - what would that be?

I am not sure that I'm ready to learn something new. But when I am, most likely it will be classical music.

I agree on the subject of humanities and sciences, though, with years passing by it gets harder and harder - to the point of being impossible - to study science if you never studied it before. While for a scientist, it is always possible to start studying pretty much anything - and succeed.
And genealogy - interesting, my physics one goes to Enrico Fermi three generations back. My neuroscience one - I never attempted to trace... And dance-wise I am an academic granddaughter of Martha Graham...
Classical music - as in actually playing it?

Just reading the scores and understanding the structures underneath.

Do you think it is possible to learn it dry? You need as little as a year of basic piano - you'd be amazed how much it'll help...
What would your instrument be IF you were to learn to play?

I always liked the piano for the reason (among others) that you can be an orchestra all by yourself on it. Harpsicord is nice, but I get tired of the stinginess of sound. On strings or winds, though, you can play polyphony - you just need a group of people - and it adds a whole other range of qualities to the experience of making polyphonic music..
